Welcome to the Cobbs of Kent family tree

Here is a picture of the Cobb family tree that has been in my family for generations. What you are looking at is a digitized image of the original hand-lettered paper document that hung on the wall of my grandparent's living room. In size, it is about 34 x 29 inches or 86 x 74 centimeters.

The tree originates with John Cobb, Esquire, of Cobb's Court in the marshes of Romney in the English County of Kent, who was known to be alive in the 17th year of King Edward II, 1324. Below him are 20 generations of Cobbs, including me, Stephen Cobb, one of the last names added to the original tree, back in the 1950s.

Note that the Cobb ancestry goes back further than the 1300s. What this document captures is the state of genealogical knowledge about the Cobbs of Kent in the first half of the last century. Much work has been done since then. The main reason that this tree starts with John Cobb, and not his father — whom I believe is Henry — is that John Cobb was the first Cobb to be recorded by the College of Heralds.
